We started a very cold day with a steep climb towards the nearby mountain with windmills along the ridge. This is a famous spot along the Camino featured in the movie “The Way ” (featured at the end of the movie trailer). I think we even made it into somebody’s documentary that they were filming on the way up there. We also were greeted by hundreds of middle grade students who are hiking this path up to the windmills.

The descent was down a treacherous path of rocks which brought back a lot of memories from our first Camino. Always a challenge but also something to laugh at ourselves from our previous memories and stories of this stretch of the Camino.

A beautiful moment of the day was when we reached a high point of the path to a small grotto dedicated to the Blessed Virgin Mary. We sat and prayed the midday prayer from the liturgy of the hours. Another man came and sat down next to me and listened to us as we prayed, he himself offering his own prayers in Spanish.

Towards the end of the day we found ourselves outside a beautiful Church. Many of the churches here have been closed along the path, which is different than our previous Camino when we could easily visit inside every Church along the way. We are not sure if it is the lack of priests in the area, or possibly the anti-catholic sentiments in the world today, or just post covid. But at least we could sit along the benches outside the parish doors to take a break in a moment of prayer.

Our day ended at a nearby albergue which had a great bar and restaurant attached. We were fortunate enough to find a room with a large bed and a soaker tub! It was a treat beyond our expectations for the day.

A really wonderful sign in the skies was this beautiful rainbow as we prayed this day for Florida and the impending hurricane Ian. We continue to pray for those affected by the storm especially the most vulnerable, the homeless, and those without resources.

The covenant promise in view

Buen Camino 🙏❤️
