Today is one of those days I am happy I made the decision to exit social media sites (Instagram, Facebook, etc). Today there will be a lot of people happy about the presidential election and many who will not. There will be those who are gloating. There will be those who are sour and bitter. It’s just the natural outcome of where the country has gone over the last decade towards tribalism. “My tribe” against “Your tribe”….and the fights can be nasty!
I really hope my Christian brothers and sisters remember the powerful words of Jesus, “I tell you, on the day of judgment you will have to give an account for every careless word you utter” (Matthew 12:36). I think “utter” may even extend to those words we type and express. Everything which makes it out of the privacy of our own heart and minds….and makes it as an “utterance” into the world.
St Paul reminds us especially for days like today, “But our citizenship is in heaven, and it is from there that we are expecting a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ.” (Philippians 3:20) We are in the world…not of it. Our true home is a monarchy with Jesus Christ as our King.
Live in the Kingdom my friends. In your heart, in your mind, and especially with your words and “utterances” – live in the Kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. The kingdoms of this world come and go. Political cycles are just that…cyclical. Your joy today may one day be turned to sorrow. Your sorrow today one day back to joy. But if your heart transcends all of this “stuff” in the world….your joy will never leave as you are already seated with Jesus in the Kingdom.
Remember today that He has “raised us up with him and seated us with him in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus, 7 so that in the ages to come he might show the immeasurable riches of his grace in kindness toward us in Christ Jesus.” (Ephesians 2:6-7)
