As we left Estella this morning we came upon Iglesia de San Pedro de la Rúa. This is a beautiful church but you have to climb a lot of stairs to reach the doors! Yet once inside we were warmly greeted by volunteers who offered to stamp our passport for the Camino, gave us a prayer card, and watched over our backpacks while we prayed and toured the church.
Before we left the same woman invited us to see the cloister area behind the church and then showed us the elevator to take us back down to the street! What warm hospitality for us Pilgrims!!
Today we found the wine fountain at Irache. An awesome tradition to drink from the fountain and receive strength for the rest of the Camino! This is adjacent to a Benedictine monastery which is now closed, but still a beautiful sight!
We spent most of the day alone. No Pilgrims to walk with us today. But that afforded us some quiet moments to pray the rosary and contemplate God’s power in the beauty around us.
We arrived at Villamayor de Madjarín and thankfully found a bed for the night. Everything is fully booked around here for the next week with all the Pilgrims ahead of us. Tonight Lisa and I made use of the kitchen in the albergue and made some pasta, salad and had bread and wine. The day ended as it had begun…just the two of us enjoying the silence and solitude with each other.
Today’s reading from the Magnificat certainly points to the truth of our lives as we see ourselves rightly in this huge creation called Earth!
Who am I Lord? I am so small in this world. How wonderful that you know us by name, and know every hair on our head, and care for every detail of our lives.
