Friday, October 21st

Today we start a walk by faith and not by sight! The weather forecast says a low chance of rain but the skies look ominous!  Lisa is mixing it up today wearing one sandal and one sneaker because of a new blister forming on her heel.  Adaptation and detachment are key themes in our hearts these days!!

But encouraging our hearts today are the beautiful colors surrounding us. We found a tree with bright yellow leaves and something that looks like purple dried beans.

The Camino takes us through cities as well as small villages and rural areas. Our morning greetings often come from sheep, geese and very friendly dogs!!

As we made our way into León, we walked beside the highway for quite a while. For a moment we thought we would have to cross this highway over this bridge but how happy we were when the path simply continued beyond it.  León is within view!

One thing we have realized however, is that destinations look much closer from a high vantage point. We get to the top of a bridge and we say, “look, the city is right there!!” But it’s still 3 more miles.

We found a comfortable place to stay for the night and will spend all of Saturday here in León. This will give us a chance to see the inside of the cathedral on Saturday as well as go to Mass. For now we took a little walk around the city and found some good vegetarian Indian food for Lisa. She was quite happy!

Jesus continues to show us that our path, our Camino this time around, is much different from 2016. Even though there is a certain familiarity with the journey, so much is remarkably different. He continues to remind us that we are here to walk with Him, to pray in silence, solitude, and learn to follow where He leads. The experiences, cathedrals, etc – all bonus! The real treasure of this journey is the time. The time with the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Buen Camino ❤️🙏

Two and half weeks until your birthday, Richard! Praying Lisa’s blister isn’t too bad. Wearing two different types of shoes can’t be easy on the knees and hips. Have a restful Saturday. Buen Camino!
