Considering the rain storm we walked through yesterday, getting pelted by small hail, we decided it was best to get a very early start on the day! More rain and winds of up to 30 mph were forecasted for the afternoon.

Our first stretch was about 8 Miles but getting such an early start (well early for us that is – before 8:30 a.m.) got us to our first stop by about 11:00 a.m. today. The sun comes up rather late here in Spain so we got to enjoy some beautiful skies this morning.

The Fall foliage is in full effect right now. The brisk air really helps with quick walking!

The things you have to tell pilgrims these days!

I had a good chuckle from this sign. Apparently it’s fine to do your business in the woods as long as you pick it up!

We saw some more bodegas as we came through Reliegos today. And some look like they were still in use! As we were leaving the town there was a small park with a newer statue set to honor the pilgrims. It is quite amazing to see how central the Camino de Santiago is to life here in Spain.

We were very happy as we made it over the bridge into Mansilla de las Mulas that we beat the rain!! Leaving early paid off and the threat of impending storms helped us keep our walk at a quick pace!!

We had about an hour before we could check into our hostel. We found the church of Santiago was open so we got to sit and do some daily prayer before the altar.

As I walked around the church this image struck me today. The familiar picture of Divine Mercy which was placed over the old confessional. What a great reminder that this Sacrament invites us to come to the mercy of Christ! He is always ready, and willing, and desiring to reconcile us to Himself through this sacrament.

We prayed in a special way for two of our homebound parishioners that Lisa and I visit. But we also pray for all of those in the assisted living facilities, or homebound situations, or rehab facilities who don’t have as regular access to the sacraments as the rest of us. Take a moment today to join us in prayer for them that the Divine Mercy of Christ would touch their hearts and fill them with joy.

Buen Camino ❤️🙏
