We took a taxi back to Sansol to pick up where we left off on Saturday. Having been refreshed by a Sunday in Logroño, we left our packs and walked just with a day pack. My knees and Lisa’s feet really appreciated a day without the extra 20-25 lbs!

We saw some familiar areas along this path including these cool rock formations and a tree with all the nations flags (and various Pilgrim offerings).

When we arrived in Viana, about the half way point of the day, we got a chance to recreate a photo from our 2016 Camino, eating lunch at the same table and cafe in front of the same church still under construction for restoration.

Today we met a couple from Buffalo, NY who were praying the rosary on the path at the same time we were. That Catholic bond was immediately kindled as we shared a rest at a small pop up cafe on the path. Tom is a convert like us from 4 years ago and Rose is a cradle Catholic. They shared all about their pilgrimage experiences including Međugorje, Jerusalem, and Lourdes.

Our spiritual challenge of the day was walking in the heat and all of the flies. It was the hottest day yet and we were inundated with flies and gnats.

Today I prayed all 4 mysteries of the rosary. The first time I had done all 4 in one day. My meditation was for our couples in formation for the diaconate. As the flies were increasing, I thought about all the obstacles that are part of the formation journey, and all of the little annoyances which try to discourage you. Press ahead and keep praying!

As we crossed the last hill coming into Logroño, we could see the city in the distance with the various churches dotting the landscape. One of the little blessings we found was in a park just as you enter the city it has a water feature with a mosaic of the Santiago shell and just enough cold water for us to soak our feet! I don’t know if that’s what this is meant for… but we just figured it was hospitality for the pilgrims walking into the city ☺️☺️

We passed by Saint Bartolomeo church and gave thanks before the Tabernacle spending a few moments with the presence of Jesus in that holy sacrament! “And behold I am with you always even to the end of the age“.

Buen Camino ❤️🙏

Your commitment to this journey is inspiring. I did not miss the fact that you drove back to Sansol to walk back to Logroño. May God continue to bless you on your journey. 🥰🤪
