Today we took a day of rest in the city of Logroño. There were not too many places available in our last village of Sansol, so we adapted to the Camino and took a bus into Logroño where there were many options for accommodations and some beautiful churches.

We got to walk around the city, visit some of the churches, and decided to wait until 7:30 p.m. for the pilgrims Mass at the parish church of “Santiago El Real”. It was a beautiful mass and at the end all of the pilgrims were called forth to kneel at the altar for a special blessing. The priest encouraged us to say with the disciples from today’s gospel, “increase our faith“.

He said when we’re climbing a mountain or descending down the other side of one and find the journey difficult remember that prayer.. increase our faith. When we feel like we can no longer go on towards Santiago de Compostela remember that prayer.. increase our faith.

While I was saying my evening prayer at the back of the church a woman approached Lisa and asked if she was a pilgrim and if she spoke English. She then invited Lisa to participate in the mass by reading two of the prayers from the universal prayer during the mass. Another man was chosen to read the intercessions in French and the woman who organized everything read the ones in Spanish.

This was the first time Lisa ever participated as a reader in a mass! “Increase our faith!!”

We also enjoyed the local food and once again found our new drink…Kalimotxo.

Tomorrow morning we get a ride back to Sansol and continue our Camino walking.

Today was a beautiful day of rest and a chance to worship with the body of Christ at large here in Spain. We certainly love the beauty and the history of the many parish churches we have visited. But our greatest love is for our home parish… Blessed Sacrament. We sure do miss all of our parish family and continue to hold them in our hearts as they continue to pray for us.
