Today we walked from Roncevalles to Zubiri:

We started out from Roncevalles after a decent night’s sleep. Thanks to ear plugs we made it through all the snoring of the surrounding Pilgrims ❤️. Lights came on at 6am for everyone to start packing up and leaving. So an early start to this Sunday morning!

We skipped the restaurant at the albergue/monastery and thought we would walk for an hour before finding coffee and breakfast since we started so early. We forgot that in Spain… places actually close on Sunday! Like Chick-fil-A in the states!
But we got to see some great sunrise moments and experienced the stillness of the morning with the cows and sheep beginning their day.

The day started off with small challenges on the walk… like walking over these pillars so as to not get our feet wet (today was a sandal day)
One lesson learned (our relearned) is that there are times we have multiple choices as to where to go. But the Camino is a set path…with signs along the way. So we look for the signs, as small as they are, to show us the path at the fork in the road….

If it were up to us, we would have chosen the easy road. The quick road. But this path was anything but easy and quick! It was hard and at times painful….

But there was also beauty in this path. We walked with, and passed, and walked with again a few Pilgrims who shared their story and inspiration for the Camino with us. Like Patrick and Anatolia from Australia.

We reached Zubiri and found a private room to try to get a better night’s sleep. The Holy Spirit led us to a man who called a fellow property owner because everywhere in this town was full! But we got a room and were grateful. Even though the room turned out to be not so clean, with old bed sheets and creaky bed, we made the best of it in a room without 100 other Pilgrims snoring 😄

Unfortunately the church in town was locked. But I found a nearby river to say evening prayer and took in the beauty of God’s creation. The prayer that evening was:
Father, creator and ruler of heaven and earth, you made man in your likeness to subdue the earth and master it, and to recognize the work of your hands in created beauty. Grant that your children, thus surrounded on all sides by signs of your presence, may live continually in Christ, praising you through him and with him.

As we prayed for the little ones in the NICU, we remembered it is s God’s presence that brings peace. Please continue to pray for the baby twins and their family. Buen Camino ❤️
